Southerland who went to Benjamin N. Cardozo High School, is now in her Senior year at Oregon University. Southerland was considered the favorite to win the 800-meter title finished 7th with a time of 2:06.99.
“I didn’t recognize myself as the favorite, but it would have been nice to win at the last NCAA meet at Hayward,” Southerland said. “I went out there and did the best I could given the conditions and given how I was feeling.”
“I’m not going to let this race define me,” Southerland said. “This doesn’t reflect who I am as a runner and as a person. To me, disheartening to have this outcome.”
Benjamin N. Cardozo High School and the rest of NYC are extremely proud of Sabrina. Just to make it to the NCAA Championships is a huge accomplishment on its own. We look forward to watching Sabrina run on June 21st at the USATF Outdoor Championships in Drake Stadium – Drake University.
Sophia Myers on the move
Sophia Myers of Queens HS of Teaching runs a US #1time of 8.00 seconds in the Girls Varsity 55 meter Hurdles on December 29th 2017 at the Marine Corps Holiday Classic. As she made her way throughout the rounds to the finals, Myers seemed to be getting back into her record-breaking speed that we all know her to produce. Myers person best in the 55meter Hurdles is 7.96. Look out for Myers to crush this time by the end of the indoor track season.
